What the FY2420 filter does
It is the active carbon layer. Carbon does not catch dust – it absorbs gases and smells: cooking odour, cigarette smoke, VOCs from paint and furniture, and the smoky smell of winter pollution. When the carbon is used up, the purifier still blows air but the smell comes back.
When should you replace it?
Your purifier counts filter hours and shows a filter-replacement alert when the filter is used up; some models stop running until it is changed. In Chandigarh and North India, winter smog and Diwali smoke load filters much faster, so the alert often comes earlier than the usual one-year life. Signs it is due: the alert light is on, airflow is weaker, the purifier stays on high all the time, or a smell comes back.
